Think Like a #GIRLBOSS

Thank God, we live in world where pant suits have taken over the once required panty hose. This is just one of the small achievements made by the many women before us. Women have been paving the way through the workplace for decades to provide opportunities for today’s young professionals and I couldn’t be more appreciative.

Some of you may know that I recently took a big leap of faith and transitioned from my position in nonprofit to the intimidating world of a corporation. It’s a company that I’ve only dreamt of working for and my wildest dreams finally came true. It’s been almost five months now and I’m still learning the dynamics and paving my own way, but I’ve had some help along the way.

After reading the book #GIRLBOSS, I felt more determined than ever, ready to take on my newest career transition. I’ve used the lessons from Sophia Amoruso, writer of #GIRLBOSS and founder of Nasty Gal, to guide me and I hope some of these small excerpts will help you through your creative journey to be successful as well.

“You don’t get taken seriously by asking someone to take you seriously. You’ve got to show up and own it.”

This gives me all of the feels. We have one of the most diverse workforces of all time, filled with Traditionalists, Baby Boomers, Gen Xs and Millennials. And each one has a different idea of success and how to communicate. The best thing to do is show up and work hard, because hard work is universal across the board.

March is National Women’s History Month. Women make up 47 percent of the workforce today and I know and have faith that this number will only continue to grow. I encourage each of you to support and uplift one another. Let us pave the way for more generations to come.
